Intervention and Restraint |
This course is specifically designed to address the increasing need for staff to be able to deal successfully with the extreme behaviour of children and young people whilst in their care.
Covering conflict, positive handling, physical intervention and personal safety, the course follows DFEE and DoH guidelines. It also promotes less intrusive techniques that are graded to deal with unique situations encountered in educational establishments.
Specific Aims
The Intervention and Restraint Course provides the delegate with:
- An understanding of the law in respect to intervention and the necessity to report, record, monitor and assess.
- A perception of how hostility and conflict develop, the conflict spiral and levels of a crisis.
- A range of de-escalation strategies and appropriate calm responses.
- An understanding of responses to behaviour management, together with the need for self-awareness and self-control whilst managing the crisis of a young people.
- The skills to risk assess physical conflict and take suitable action.
- Skills in physical intervention, learning how to hold, direct and escort young people in crisis situations.
