Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) |
 This nationally recognised five day course provides safety management training within the building and civil engineering industries.
Who should attend?
- Site Managers
- Engineers
- Sub-contractors
- Directors and managers of construction companies.
Scheme and Syllabus
The Site Management Safety Training Scheme has the general aim of assisting site management and supervisory personnel to:
- Manage health and safety on site in accordance with the current legal provisions and within the context of their management or supervisory role.
- Develop an understanding of their responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare.
- Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.
Specific Aims
In order to encourage a positive and forward thinking attitude to managing health, safety and welfare at work, the scheme is designed to:
- Bring delegates up to date with the principals of current legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance relating to the organisation of construction sites.
- Develop skills in assessment, planning and implementation of safe systems and methods in the workplace.
- Help delegates to examine how far they meet their own responsibilities for health, safety and welfare at work.
- Provide examples and opportunities for them to study and analyse health, safety and welfare practices and procedures.
- Draw on material they will find of common interest and use.
- Emphasise and draws attention to the many examples where efficiency is linked to the effective management of health, safety and welfare on construction sites.
- Help and encourage them to develop management methods and techniques for dealing with future health safety and welfare issues at their own workplace.
- Guide, help and encourage them to develop their knowledge and skills in this area in a wider context beyond the course content.
